How dermal filler works

As we age, the face loses volume in layers: bone slowly remodels and recedes, deep fat pads shrink and shift, and the skin thins. The result is flattening of the cheeks, hollowing around the temples and deepening folds beside the mouth. Dermal fillers are smooth gels made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule your body already produces, that replace that lost volume and support the skin from beneath.

At Anato Aesthetics, each treatment is customized to support your aesthetic goals, ensuring enhancements that feel seamless, sophisticated and true to your unique features. We choose the filler for each area based on its firmness and flexibility: a structural filler for the chin and a softer, more flexible gel for the lips.

What to expect at your appointment

  1. Consultation and mapping. Jessica evaluates your face at rest and in motion, discusses proportion and balance, and recommends where product will make the biggest difference. You receive a quote for each area before treatment.
  2. Numbing. A topical anesthetic is applied for 15 to 20 minutes. The fillers we use also contain lidocaine for comfort during injection.
  3. Treatment. Filler is placed using a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, which reduces bruising and improves safety in higher-risk areas. Jessica checks symmetry as she works.
  4. Aftercare. Ice as needed, avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, heat and makeup for 24 hours, and sleep on your back the first night if you can.
  5. Follow-up. We see new filler patients at two weeks to review the settled result and make any refinements.

Safety first

Filler is a medical procedure and should be performed by a licensed medical professional with a thorough understanding of facial vascular anatomy. Jessica Lee, MSN, FNP-C, uses cannula technique where appropriate and keeps hyaluronidase (the enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid) on hand at every appointment. Your safety and a natural outcome are never in competition.

Filler in combination with other treatments

Filler pairs naturally with Botox or Dysport to address both volume loss and expression lines, and with Sculptra for patients who want broad collagen restoration plus targeted definition. For skin quality and tightening, XERF, SkinPen microneedling and the VI Peel complete the plan.

Frequently asked questions

How much does dermal filler cost in Scottsdale?
Filler is priced by area, and a full assessment is needed before we can recommend a plan. You will receive an exact quote at your consultation before any treatment. Because we take a conservative, build-over-time approach, many patients need less product than they expect.
How long does filler last?
Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 9 to 18 months depending on the product, the area treated and your metabolism.
Does filler hurt?
Modern fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing cream before treatment, so most patients describe mild pressure rather than pain. Lips are the most sensitive area and are numbed thoroughly.
What is the downtime after filler?
You may have mild swelling, redness or small bruises for a few days, with lips swelling the most in the first 48 hours. Most patients return to work the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat for 24 hours and plan filler at least two weeks before an important event.
Will I look overfilled?
No. Overfilled results come from placing too much product without regard to anatomy. We assess your bone structure and proportions first, use conservative amounts, and prefer to add a little more at a follow-up than to overcorrect. The goal is for people to notice you look rested, not that you had filler.
Can filler be reversed?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with a result or in the rare event of a complication. Jessica keeps hyaluronidase on hand at every appointment.
Filler vs. Sculptra: which do I need?
Filler gives immediate, targeted volume and definition in a specific area. Sculptra rebuilds your own collagen gradually for broad, foundational firmness across the face. Many patients benefit from both; your consultation will clarify which fits your goals and timeline.
