How microneedling works
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a sterile cartridge of ultra-fine needles to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries are invisible to the eye, but they trigger the body’s wound-healing cascade: growth factors are released, fibroblasts are activated, and new collagen and elastin are laid down over the following weeks. The result is skin that is smoother, firmer and more even in tone, with reduced scarring and fine lines.
Because the channels close within hours, downtime is minimal, and because no heat is involved, SkinPen is safe for every skin tone. It is one of the most versatile treatments we offer and a cornerstone of long-term skin health at Anato Aesthetics.
Why we use SkinPen
Not all microneedling devices are equal. SkinPen Precision was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA and remains the standard in clinical practice. It uses single-use sterile cartridges to eliminate cross-contamination, delivers precise, adjustable depth so we can treat delicate skin and more resilient areas like acne scars on the cheeks in the same session, and has published clinical data showing improvement in acne scarring in 90 percent of patients after a series.
What microneedling treats
- Acne scars: rolling and boxcar scars soften as new collagen fills them from below.
- Fine lines and wrinkles: especially around the eyes, mouth and forehead.
- Enlarged pores and rough texture: the skin surface becomes refined and smooth.
- Mild laxity: firmer skin on the face, neck and jawline.
- Stretch marks: on the abdomen, hips, thighs and arms.
- Overall radiance: the “glow” most patients notice within the first week.
What to expect at your appointment
- Consultation. Jessica assesses your skin, reviews your history, and confirms microneedling is right for your concern. Active acne, cold sores or certain medications may require rescheduling.
- Numbing. Skin is cleansed and topical anesthetic is applied for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Treatment. A hydrating glide serum is applied and the SkinPen is passed over the skin in a systematic pattern, adjusting needle depth for each area. The treatment itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes for the full face.
- Recovery serum. A soothing post-procedure serum is applied. Optional PDGF growth-factor serum can be added to boost healing and results.
- Aftercare. Skin will be pink for a day or two. Use only the gentle cleanser and moisturizer we recommend for 48 hours, skip makeup for 24 hours, avoid active ingredients like retinol and acids for five days, and be diligent with SPF.
Microneedling as part of your plan
Microneedling improves skin quality, while neurotoxins, filler and Sculptra address movement and structure beneath it. For pigmentation and sun damage, alternating microneedling with a VI Peel is one of the most effective non-laser combinations available. Your consultation is where we sequence it all.
